The Spirit-Driven Band

Lyrics by Dennis L. Harrison

Praise the Lord.
How would you like to hear one more song?
Alright, let’s do it.

We’ve been playin’ in the prisons in the jails and at the missions—
Doin’ our best to win all those girls and those boys.
Drinkin’ and drugs has tried to take away their souls;
Their bodies and their minds, it will destroy.

We love to sing our songs of hope and mercy—
Sing ’em to the lost and the down and the out.
And look into their eyes and see the tears comin’ down their face,
Knowin’ that they’ve just been saved by grace.

We are the Spirit; we are the Spirit-Driven Band.

People ask us why we don’t play at many churches.
“Why don’t you entertain all those Christian souls?”
They’re all doin’ fine with their contemporary bands;
We just wanna play our own gospel rock and roll.

Where the sinners are is where we do our best work—
Shining the light in the dark places of the towns,
Preachin’ the gospel message of redemption,
And how their own salvation can be found.

We are the Spirit; we are the Spirit-Driven Band.

I hope you’ve enjoyed listening to our original music,
And how we rewrite all those classic songs.
We can get a little bit outrageous, sometimes
‘Cause we wanna teach you right from wrong.

We are the Spirit; we are the Spirit-Driven Band.

[Guitar Solo]

Just in case you haven’t noticed, we’ve been getting a little bit older,
But the good Lord knows we can still bend those guitar strings.
We’ll be playing songs until the Lord calls us Home.
Remember that we’ve been called to sing.

We are the Spirit; we are the Spirit-Driven Band.

Yeah, that’s what we do, baby.
Bring that gospel music.
We’re turning that gospel
message out to the highways
and the byways.
Preaching that good gospel message.
Yeah, we spirit driven.
Everyone need them doing.

Thank you so much for having us.
And may God bless you.
Thank you.
