The Lord Gently Weeps
Our Lord Gently Weeps
Lyrics by Dennis L. Harrison
John 12:13
“They heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.
They took branches of palm trees and went forth to meet him
and cried ‘Hosanna, blessed is the King of Israel
who comes in the name of the Lord.'”
He rode into town on a colt that He borrowed;
The crowd laid their clothes on the ground.
They waved flags of palms, and they shouted, “Hosanna!”
Then our dear Lord gently weeps.
I don’t know why you won’t accept Him,
And you reject Him right now.
Why don’t you come to the One Who can save you—
The One Who gave His life for you?
He said, “Oh, Jerusalem, I would have gathered you under My wings
Like a mother hen with her chicks.”
Because you would not, you have missed your visitation-
And that’s why our Lord gently weeps.
I don’t know why you won’t accept Him,
And you reject Him right now.
Why don’t you come to the One Who can save you—
The One Who gave His life for you?
You know life is short, and that time is so fleeting;
That’s why the Lord gently weeps.
He looks at your life, and it’s just like a vapor—
That’s why the Lord gently weeps.
