Don’t wanna be a Jonah; I wanna be like John.
     Don’t wanna be runnin’ from the holy One.
I wanna share the gospel with everyone.
     Don’t wanna be a Jonah; I wanna be like John.

You’ve heard the story of old Jonah; he ended up in a whale.
     He didn’t wanna warn the people, so from Joppa he sailed.
After three long days and nights, the Lord changed his mind;
     So he preached repentance to the Ninevehites.

Don’t wanna be a Jonah; I wanna be like John.
     Don’t wanna be runnin’ from the holy One.
I wanna share the gospel with everyone.
     Don’t wanna be a Jonah; I wanna be like John.

Jesus’ cousin named John before the Lord was sent.
     He preached the comin’ kingdom, and “You must repent.”
He met the Lord at the river banks. Though Christ was free of sin,
     Jesus asked him to so John baptized Him.

Don’t wanna be a Jonah; I wanna be like John.
     Don’t wanna be runnin’ from the holy One-
I wanna share the gospel with everyone.
     Don’t wanna be a Jonah; I wanna be like John.
