Holy City

Lyrics © 2004 by Dennis L. Harrison

I was out driving home one late foggy night.
     I came to a curve; I should have turned right.
Over an embankment in a fiery crash,
     My life passed before me in less than a flash.

I saw my poor body all lifeless and still.
     So sorry for the person, my family they’ll tell.
Then I heard the Master say unto me,
     “My good and faithful servant, come unto Me.”

Welcome to My holy, holy city.
     I saved your life with My sacrifice.
Welcome to My holy, holy city
     Where you’ll never grow old,
Walk on streets of gold.

I started walking up those golden stairs,
     My burdens all lifted.
I had no more cares.
     Then a beautiful angel wiped all my tears.

I looked in the face of God without any fears.
     We went in the throne room;
He sat on His right.
     It was so awesome; the light was so bright.

The books were then opened.
     I had no more shame.
Then the Lamb’s book was opened
     And there was my name, and He said…

“Welcome to My holy, holy city.
     I saved your life with My sacrifice.
Welcome to My holy, holy city
     Where you’ll never grow old,
Walk on streets of gold.”

All of a sudden, I saw my mom and my dad,
     Lots of other loved ones, and few of my friends.
We all were rejoicing and praising His name,
     Singing, “Holy, holy, holy,” and it would never end.

If you don’t know the Savior, you can just ask Him in;
     He died on a cruel cross for all of your sins.
And then when it’s your time to pass away,
     “Well, done my faithful servant,” is what Hell say.
