The Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments
Lyrics by Jesse L. McCuin
One day from a cloud on the mountain,
God spoke in a blasting tone.
He was a-gonna tell His children
‘Bout the rules He was a-givin,
But they were so afraid there in their zone,
So Moses told ’em all about it.
What the Lord was a-sayin’ to Him…
God said, “Climb up here and see Me
‘Cause on the facts I ain’t gonna skim.
Hey, Moses, I’ve got two tablets,
And these laws… they cannot be bent.”
Because ya know, ya gotta
Only serve one God;
Worship nothing else.
His name use with respect;
Keep the Sabbath day.
Honor your ma and pa.
Don’t murder anyone.
Not to fool around.
Don’t steal or tell a fib.
Your neighbor’s things belong to him;
Keep your desires away.
They are the Ten Commandments-Ten Commandments.
Now a-meantime at the bottom;
The children were doin’ bad.
They’re all ready sinnin, how soon forgettin’;
They sure know how to make our God a-mad.
So Moses headed back down the mountain,
The two tablets in his hands;
But when he heard em, and then he seen ’em,
It was a thing he just couldn’t stand.
He smashed the stones to pieces.
But these laws will forever stand.
Because ya know, ya gotta
Only serve one God;
Worship nothing else.
His name use with respect;
Keep the Sabbath day.
Honor your ma and pa.
Don’t murder anyone.
Not to fool around.
Don’t steal or tell a fib.
Your neighbor’s things belong to him;
Keep your desires away.
They are the Ten Commandments-Ten Commandments.
Christ didn’t come to change em,
But to be their fulfillment;
You know, they are the Ten Commandments.
The Ten Commandments…
