Song For Seth
Song For Seth

There’s an empty desk at school; it belongs to Seth.
Our classroom’s not the same since his death.
His pictures are still hanging on the wall.
How could a man hurt a little boy so small?
Such a tragedy–he died needlessly;
I pray Seth will finally rest peacefully.
I saw the bruises, and I saw the scars
On his little face and back and on his arms.
I saw the signs; I sounded the alarm.
They didn’t think that Seth was in any harm.
Such a tragedy–he died needlessly;
I pray Seth will finally rest peacefully.
It’s Sunday morning; can’t you hear the church bells chime?
“Children gather round the table, let’s start on time.
One of us is gone; see his empty chair.”
We’re all so sad, but never in despair.
There’s plenty of blame to go ’round.
No help for Seth could be found.
Plenty of blame to go ’round this old town;
We never should have another.
Tragedy–he died needlessly.
I pray Seth will finally rest peacefully.
I pray Seth will finally rest peacefully.
I pray Seth will finally rest peacefully.
