Gambler’s Blues

© 2008 by Dennis L. Harrison

I’ve gotta problem, I must admit.
     I just keep on playin’; I just can’t quit.
It may be cards or it might be slots-
     It really don’t matter;
They take all I’ve got.
     I never thought I could ever get so lost…

I’ve got the gambler’s blues.
     Ive lost my ability to choose.
I’ve got the gambler’s blues.
     I’ll bet you my last dollar, I’m gonna lose.

It started small, I remember that,
     At the Tribes Casino playin’ blackjack.
Every day I quit; that’s a matter of fact.
     But I keep on playin’;
They got the shirt off my back.
     If you’d spot me a twenty, I could win it back…

I’ve got the gambler’s blues.
     I’ve lost my ability to choose.
I’ve got the gambler’s blues.
     I’ll bet you my last dollar, I’m gonna lose.

I wanna warn you, hope you understand.
     Take some advice from a gamblin’ man:
“Don’t ever start!”
     Hear what I say, “Pray for the power to walk away.”

If I could take a shot or swallow a pill
     That would cure this addiction
To the gambler’s thrill,
     I could get back my life and my free will.

I’ve got the gambler’s blues.
     The games are tailor-made for fools..
I’ve got the gambler’s blues.
     I’ll ber you my last dollar
I’ve got the gambler’s blues.
     I’ve lost my ability to choose.
I’ve got the gambler’s blues.
     Please, somebody, won’t you help me shake
these awful gambler’s blues.
