He resides downtown at the city mission;
He’ll spend his second Christmas all alone.
Cocaine was the drug she couldn’t live with,
So she took their son, and now he’s on his own.
Department-store Santa- the only job that he could find-
Seven days a week straight through from five till nine.
Big red suit and long white beard; he knew hed do just fine.
Twenty dollar a day’s his pay till Christmas Day.
One day at a time’s the 12-Step program.
His goal to stay clean and get to work,
And maybe get his wife and kid to trust him;
Now he knows their value and their worth.
Department-store Santa- the only job that he could find-
Seven days a week straight through from five till nine.
Big red suit and long white beard; he knew hed do just fine.
Twenty dollar a day’s his pay till Christmas Day.
He couldn’t help but think about his own kid,
As he listened to every child’s request.
Then he saw a little guy that looked familiar,
In worn-out shoes and tattered vest.
Right then he knew it was his own son.
The boy said, “Santa, don’t be sad;
Give away your toys to all the other boys.
What I really want for Christmas is my dad.”
Department-store Santa wiped the teardrops from his eyes,
And said, “Son, I hope you realize
That your father really loves you,” and before I say goodbye,
I’d like to say, “You’ll see your dad on Christmas Day.”
That’s right,
You’ll see your dad on Christmas Day.
I’ll bet my sleigh,
You’ll see your dad on Christmas Day.
